Canada Trip Study

In this unit you will prepare for our June 6-8 trip to Quebec City and Montreal.  Our study is divided into five parts:

History of European Settlement in North America

Cultural Practices and Customs in French Canada

Cognates in Latinate Languages and Dialects

Background Information and Data on Canada

Trip Details and Logistics

Assignment One:

Explore the links on the Trip Details and Logistics pages, and answer the questions on that page.

Assignment Two:

Explore the links on the History of European Settlement in North America page, and respond to the questions on that page.

Assignment Three:

Explore the Cognates in Latinate Languages and Dialects page, and respond to the questions on that page.

Assignment Four:

Explore the Background Information and Data on Canada page, and respond to the questions on that page.

Assignment Five:

Check the weather for this weekend's trip!  Remember that we are going to two cities.  Will it be hot, warm, cool, cold?  Will you need an umbrella or raincoat?

Assignment Six:  

Reflection.  Answer these questions in a word document (send without formatting to sylviaf@mpsvt.org) or in your journal.  Write a complete paragraph for each.

1.  What examples of French culture and heritage did you see on our trip?  Give several examples.

2.  Which historical or cultural activity was your favorite, and why?  Explain what you learned about Quebec history or culture from the activity.  Be specific.  (Shopping doesn't count for this question.)

3.  Describe Old Quebec (where you had lunch and went shopping on Saturday).

4.  What was the best part of the trip, and why?
