Background Information and Data on Canada

Assignment:  Copy and paste these questions into a Word document, answer in complete sentences, and clear all formatting from the document before sending your responses to me at sylviaf@mpsvt.org.

 

 

Here is a great map of Canada and facts about each of the provinces.  Using this site, and other resources when necessary, answer these questions in complete sentences:

  1. Most cities and towns in Quebec are located near the St. Lawrence River.  Why do you think this is so?
  2. The motto of Quebec is "je me souviens," which means "I remember."  What memories do you think this motto refers to?  (Hint: think about the video we watched.)
  3. What food products are grown/produced in Quebec?
  4. Do you think you would enjoy the Winter Carnival in Quebec?  Why or why not?
  5. When was the Quebec Citadel built, and why? 
  6. Using the data on the Quebec page of this site, and this chart of US city population, determine:  Which US city is closest in population to Montreal?

 

The CIA World Factbook is a comprehensive source of information about Canada.  Using this site, and other resources when necessary, answer these questions in complete sentences:

  1. Which country is larger, Canada or the U.S.?
  2. How many official languages are there in Canada?  What are they?
  3. The U.S. celebrates Independence Day on July 4.  When is Canada's national holiday?
  4. Who is the current head of government, and how long has s/he been in office?
  5. What percentage of the labor force works in agriculture?
  6. What does "agriculture" mean?
  7. What is the largest section of the labor force?
  8. Which telephone system is more widespread, land lines or cellular?
